OKLAHOMA – A man drove his car into Lake Hefner around 6:20 p.m. Tuesday.

The man was traveling at a high rate of speed when he ran into the lake, according to authorities.

He was heavily intoxicated.

The man was able to swim to shore and had to be taken to the hospital.

The car is about 70 yards from the shoreline.

The man said he was the only person in the vehicle, and the fire department dive team made sure there was no one else.

They decided to leave the vehicle in the lake until morning because of bad weather conditions.

The car went through where the canal meets the lake.
