HIALEAH, Fla. – Three people are facing several charges after allegedly trying to carjack a mother.

Surveillance cameras were rolling when two masked men sprinted toward a van at a gas station in Hialeah. The female driver immediately locked herself inside the vehicle, so the would-be car thieves spotted another target.

The men immediately jumped into a red car, but they had no idea the driver was prepared to fight.

“She was a mom, and what the bad guy didn’t know, in the back seat of that car were two kids,” Carl Zogby, with the Hialeah Police Department, told WSVN. “She wasn’t gonna let them be taken, so she fought, she dragged the guy out of the car and they both ran away like cowards.”

The alleged carjackers ran to a getaway car, but their high-speed getaway caught the attention of a nearby officer.

Authorities say Juan Carlos Gonzales, Nicholas Rosado and Rebecca Utria were taken into custody and are facing charges of attempted carjacking and fleeing police.
