Watch: Deputy rescues 2-year-old boy running on highway

NEWPORT, Ore. – It’s video that will take any parent’s breath away.

A deputy’s dashboard camera was rolling when he slammed on his brakes because he saw something running in the road.

As it gets closer, the deputy realizes it was a a 2-year-old boy running down Hwy 101.

According to KGW, Lincoln County Deputy Jeremy Gautney quickly scooped the child up so he wouldn’t be hit by any vehicles.

Authorities soon learned that the boy’s parents were frantically searching for him after he slipped out of an open door while they were cleaning.

Police posted the dash cam video to serve as a warning to parents and distracted drivers about how quickly things can turn tragic.
