OKLAHOMA CITY - Oklahoma City police are searching for a gunman who was caught on surveillance video trying to rob a convenience store and threatening to shoot and kill the store clerk.

Around 8 p.m. Saturday, a mystery gunman walked into the Circle L Food Mart on Western near Britton.

At first, the suspect looked like a regular customer who needed cigarettes.

Suddenly, he demanded cash and the situation quickly escalated.

But, instead of handing over the money, the store clerk decided to do something else.

"The clerk actually armed himself with a tire iron and began swinging it and throwing it at him," said OKCPD MSgt. Gary Knight.

"I was just scared, you know, because he said, 'Give me money. Give me money. I kill you. Give me money,'" said Tho Banh, the store clerk.

After a few minutes, the suspect gave up and ran out of the store.

Police are now hoping someone will recognize the man in the surveillance video.

"Obviously, we want to get him identified and off the streets before he can do something like this again and maybe hurt somebody," Knight said.

For Banh, he's hoping for business as usual and to feel safe again.

"I hope the police catch him," Banh said.

If you know any details about this attempted armed robbery, you’re asked to call Crime Stoppers at 405-235-7300.
