BLANCHARD, Okla. – Emergency crews contained a large blaze near Blanchard, saying several homes were evacuated as the fire grew.

Shortly before 2 p.m., firefighters were called to a grass fire between Bridge Creek and Blanchard.

Initial reports indicated that some structures were being threatened by the flames near Sara Rd. and E. 1270.

At this point, several acres have burned.

Crews say the fire is mostly contained, but they did evacuate about 50 homes as a precaution.

The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for several counties across the state, meaning any fires that spark could spread quickly.
