DETROIT, Mich. – A Detroit mother was shot while heading to pick her son up from basketball practice.

Police told WXYZ that 43-year-old Erica Garner was getting ready to pick up her 11-year-old son from the bus stop when she was shot.

Investigators believe 17-year-old Ralph Anthony Marshall attempted to carjack Garner, and when she drove away, he fired a shot at her car.

Garner was able to make it the bus stop, where fellow parents called for help.

Tragically, Garner died at the scene.

Now, authorities say Marshall has been charged with first-degree murder, carjacking and felony weapons charges.
