WALTON COUNTY, Ga. – A 17-year-old volleyball player said she had to undergo triple bypass surgery after going into cardiac arrest during a game.

Claire Crawford was playing at Loganville Christian Academy when something went wrong.

Crawford grabbed her chest and collapsed on the court.

“I remember slowly going black. I don’t remember hitting the floor so I was out before hitting the floor,” she told WSB.

Immediately, staff and coaches at the school rushed to her aid and used a defibrillator to get a heartbeat.

“Without the AED there’s no way I would’ve made it and the ambulance wouldn’t have gotten here on time,” she said.

Crawford’s family doesn’t have a history of cardiac problems, but she says she suffered shoulder pain and even had surgery for it, but the burning sensation continued.

She said she went to several doctors before the game, but not one caught it.

However, doctors found several unexplained blockages, forcing her to undergo triple bypass surgery.
