OKLAHOMA CITY - A thief caught on camera not only stealing from the church but also the poor.

This church has been here for more than a hundred years.

It's survived the Oklahoma City bombing, a recent fire and now theft.

The priest just wants the suspect to come forward.

"This poor box has been here for about 25 years. It's soldered to the wrought iron," said Father Price Oswalt from St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

A box full of money intended to help those without it.

"The poor stealing their own money, but there's better ways to do it," Oswalt said.

A better way than what this man was caught on camera doing.

"You see the man," said MSgt. Gary Knight. "He walks in the first time, tries to open the box, and he cannot get it open, leaves goes out and gets a tool, and the money falls to the floor."

In seconds, he scoops it up and runs out.

"As Jesus told us in the gospel, the poor you will always have with you, and so the church is always there to respond to that," Oswalt said.

Oswalt trying to understand why the thief didn't just ask for help.

"We serve dozens and dozens of poor every day, all the time," he said. "All the time, we're open. If people ask, we're generous and willing to give."

The church focusing on one thing.

"Know that Jesus loves you, and you're already forgiven," Oswalt said.

The church is currently working to raise more than half a million dollars to fix their roof.

They'll have to dip into that fund to install more security cameras and give back the donation money.
