Oklahoma City Thunder assistant coach Maurice Cheeks will be out for about six weeks after undergoing successful hip surgery on Wednesday, February 17.

The Thunder made the announcement about Cheeks, who is only expected to miss about one week before he is able to return to practices and meetings, but won’t be able to return to the bench for games for about six weeks.

Cheeks is in his first season in his second tenure as a Thunder assistant.

Cheeks had previously been a Thunder assistant for four seasons from 2009 to 2013.

Oklahoma City Blue head coach Mark Daigneault will join the Thunder’s staff as an assistant for the rest of the year, and Jarrell Christian will take over as the Blue head coach with Daigneault moving on.
