Former Miss New Jersey dies from car crash injuries

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – A former beauty queen who was critically injured in a car crash one week ago has died.

According to, 24-year-old Cara McCollum was driving along Route 55 after work when her Mustang ran off the road and hit several trees.

Although it had just snowed, police have not said whether the weather played a factor in the crash.

McCollum was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

On Monday, McCollum’s boyfriend and family announced that they were donating her organs.

“We’ve prayed constantly for a miracle, and we believe God has answered our prayers. Although it’s not the miracle that we first envisioned, it’s a miracle nonetheless,” the Facebook post read.

In 2013, McCollum won the Miss New Jersey pageant and then competed in the 2014 Miss America contest.
