Your phone may not be as secure as you think.
According to CNBC, a Chinese start-up recently demonstrated how it could unlock an Apple iPhone via the fingerprint sensor using Play-Doh.
Fortunately for iPhone users, the hack isn’t as easy as it sounds.
Jason Chaikin, president of mobile security firm Vkansee, says all you need to spoof a fingerprint is a wad of dental mold, the finger you are trying to recreate, and some Play-Doh.
After taking a mold of your fingerprint using a dental mold, you can press the Play-Doh into the mold and create a replica of your finger.
Then touch Play-Doh mold onto your iPhone’s fingerprint scanner and the device will unlock, according to Chaikin.
While it is doubtful anyone will go through this amount of trouble to recreate your fingerprint, Chaikin says he wanted to highlight the lack of sophistication in today’s biometric solutions.
