LUBBOCK, Texas – A mother is facing charges after her 3-year-old daughter was found wandering around an apartment complex.

According to KJTV, neighbors found the toddler at the Corte Vista Apartments.

A police report obtained by KJTV claims the child complained that she was hungry and said, “I need a beer.”

Authorities say the girl was “extremely dirty” and was covered in bug bites.

Once inside the girl’s home, police say they found cockroaches climbing on the walls and 42-year-old Shauna Bennett asleep.

“This was a clear neglect on the mother’s part,” said Lt. Ray Mendoza, with the Lubbock Police Department. “It was the conditions the child was living under and the fact that the mom was completely oblivious to where the child had been or where it was at the time.”

Neighbors say Bennett is a good mother who simply made a mistake.

Bennett was arrested and charged with abandoning/endangering a child.
