OKLAHOMA CITY - Some of Oklahoma’s heroes received free dental care Tuesday.
Aspen Dental’s 42-foot long bright blue dental office on wheels was pared on the State Capitol grounds helping veterans in need.
"It just means so wonderful to me to be able to come to a place and get this done and be happy and be able to smile again," said Sylvester Thomas Jr.
Finding his smile is the exact reason why this veteran is here.
Thomas was a sergeant in the United States Army.
He said his teeth started to deteriorate over the years.
"Growing up in Mississippi, the water kind of messed my teeth up and alcohol in the military and over the years," Thomas said.
He's now here to get the dental care he desperately needs.
"I need some teeth pulled. I need some dental work done, and they said they're going to help me," Thomas said.
This dental office on wheels has been traveling the country for about three years, stopping in more than 30 states and serving more than 1,000 Veterans.
It's all a part of the Aspen Dental Healthy Mouth Movement.
Inside the MouthMobile are two fully functioning operating chairs and an x-ray unit.
Of course, there are also dentists and hygienists who are donating their time and services.
"We just want them to be able to come here, get the things they need, the fillings, cleanings, extractions and go home and understand that somebody's out there that understands the service they provided us, and we want to give them back something they deserve," said Dr. Alex Williams, Aspen Dental.
"It makes me feel true to be American and happy to be a vet," Thomas said. "Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.”
If you missed Tuesday’s event, people can look forward to a 'Day of Service' in late June.
Participating Aspen Dental offices in Oklahoma will be providing more free services to veterans.
