LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – A 6-year-old boy is recovering after police say he was shot in the chest by a stranger.

Authorities told 11Alive that 6-year-old Ni-Shawn Moore was riding his bike in his neighborhood when “someone approached him and shot in the upper chest.”

Moore went to his mom and told her that a stranger shot him with a BB gun.

After his mother called police, paramedics arrived to treat Moore for his injuries.

A short time later, Moore was rushed to the hospital where doctors determined the wound was not from a BB gun but a .22 caliber weapon.

11Alive reports that his injury was more serious than paramedics initially thought and he was taken to a children’s hospital in critical condition.

“You’re having a little party out here for the children and children can’t even be out here because somebody that’s foolish is going to be shooting guns. It’s just not right, we shouldn’t have to live like this,” Anita Harrington, Ni-Shawn’s grandmother, said.

So far, no arrests have been made.
