ARVADA, Colo – A convenience store clerk knew something wasn’t right when a young mother walked up to the counter with her baby.

“I was talking to the baby and she- the girl- had a glazed look on her face,” said Rebecca Montano. “I wasn’t sure, I felt uneasy about it. I was asking her, ‘Is everything OK?’ I grabbed the baby’s arm and she started to sway, she wouldn’t answer me. She was just lost in space, so I thought I better take the baby, something doesn’t feel right.”

At that point, the mother fell backward into the counter before collapsing on the floor.

Montano says she asked other customers for help as she called 911.

“I think being a mother, being a grandmother, my first instinct was the baby,” Montano told KUSA. “I just wanted to save the baby from getting hurt, if she would’ve fallen with the baby in her arms, who knows where that baby would’ve landed?”

KUSA reports the young mother is OK, saying she has had seizures since she was a child.

She says that she is thankful Montano noticed something was wrong and grabbed her daughter before she collapsed.
