Police arrest Ponca City man accused of kidnapping, strangulation

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City Police have arrested a Ponca City man wanted for multiple felonies including burglary, kidnapping, and strangulation.

Derek Anthony Tabbert, 28,  is charged with felony counts of domestic by strangulation, first-degree burglary, kidnapping, disrupting and or preventing a telephone call and a protective order.

Police report that he is accused of assaulting a woman in her apartment on Feb. 9, according to the  Ponca City News.

The victim stated Tabbert demanded a ride to Oklahoma City to avoid warrants after breaking into her apartment through a damaged door.

The victim attempted to call the police, but Tabbert restrained her hands from using the phone and strangled her.

The pair eventually traveled to Oklahoma City where they checked into a hotel. At that point, Tabbert reportedly assaulted and choked her again.

The victim escaped and returned to Ponca City.

Tabbert is currently in the Oklahoma City Jail being booked.
