12-year-old Oklahoma boy killed in suspected DUI crash

STILLWATER, Okla. – A 12-year-old Oklahoma boy was killed after his stepfather, who police suspect was driving under the influence of alcohol, crashed his vehicle.

Around 6 p.m. on Monday, police say Dustin Scott Calhoun, 33, was driving on a gravel road near Sanborn Park north of Stillwater when he lost control and struck a tree with the passenger side of the pickup.

Calhoun’s 12-year-old stepson, Curtis Ray Barnes, and his 10-year-old stepson, Troy Dean Love, were both passengers in the front seat of the vehicle.

Barnes was pronounced dead at the scene.

Calhoun and Love were transported to a local hospital to be treated for their injuries.

Police say Love was treated and released to family members.

Calhoun was later transferred to an Oklahoma City hospital with incapacitating injuries.

Authorities placed Calhoun under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

A blood sample was taken from Calhoun; However, test results are not immediately available.

The investigation into the cause of the collision is still ongoing, police say.
