OKLAHOMA CITY - No one carried the torch of consumer advocacy quite like Brad Edwards.

On Tuesday, Brad's daughter, Ashton, presented her dad's award to another consumer champion, an Army veteran and detective with the Ardmore Police Department.

“That effort, persistence and passion is why Corporal Johnson is this year's recipient of the Brad Edwards Consumer Champion Award," Edwards said.

Corporal Detective John Johnson put his life on the line in Afghanistan, has earned countless service medals and continues to protect the public through his detective work.

Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt said he was an obvious choice for the honor.

“What it demonstrates is law enforcement across the state each day doing what they do well, which is serve the public and put others ahead of themselves and make sure they take steps to prevent fraud and prosecute fraud when it happens,” he said.

Johnson grew up watching Brad on In Your Corner.

“I really do remember growing up and he was trying to stick a mic in somebody's face [and saying], ‘Why are you ripping off these poor people?' and they'd slam the door,” Johnson said.

He said getting recognized for doing some of the same work is a moment he'll never forget.
