OKLAHOMA CITY – Two young children were killed in a house fire in northeast Oklahoma City Tuesday morning, fire officials said.

Around 9:30 a.m., officials say a passerby called 911 to report a house fire in the 1200 block of N.E. 47th Street.

The caller told dispatchers that a 4-year-old and a 3-year-old were trapped inside a bedroom in the burning home.

Crews rushed inside to rescue the children, but were not able to locate them in the bedroom.

Firefighters eventually found the children inside a bathroom.

Unfortunately, officials say the two children did not survive the fire.

“Obviously, a very unfortunate morning,” Benny Fulkerson, Public Information Officer with the Oklahoma City Fire Department, said. “We hate this for this family and our hearts certainly go out to them.”

Officials have not released the victims’ ages at this time.

Fire officials told KFOR crews the children’s mother and grandmother were able to make it out of the home before the fire spread.

The children’s grandmother is wheelchair bound.  The mother was able to get her out of the home, but was not able to go back in for the kids, officials said.

Investigators are working to determine what caused the fire.

No other information has been released at this time.
