REDLANDS, Calif. - An intense two-hour long hostage situation finally came to an end after the suspect was shot dead by police.

Around 2:20 p.m. Thursday, authorities received a call about a man firing a gun in the parking lot of an Office Depot, KTLA reports.

The alleged gunman, 29-year-old Andrew Mike, entered the store in search of his ex-girlfriend, identified as 28-year-old Kristin Bauer.

Mike reportedly fired his weapon a second time, striking a bystander in the hand.

That is when police say Mike forced his ex-girlfriend to leave the store.

The two were later found sitting in a grassy area.

A SWAT team and sharp-shooters quickly surrounded the two, KTLA reports.

The woman's father told the San Bernardino Sun that he was on the phone with his daughter during the terrifying ordeal.

"She kept telling him, 'You gotta let me go. You gotta let me go.' And, he said, 'I'm not afraid to die,'" Bauer told the newspaper.

Just after 4:30 p.m., officials say Mike shot Kristin Bauer.

An officer-involved shooting followed.

Mike was pronounced dead at the scene, KTLA reports.

Kristin Bauer was transported to the hospital in critical condition.
