MIAMI, Okla. – Two adults and the victim’s teenage sister have been charged in the fatal shooting of an Ottawa County man during an alleged robbery for drugs and money.

The Tulsa World reports that 39-year-old Brandon Lee Jones and 34-year-old John Kevin Rather Jr. are charged with first-degree murder in the slaying of 25-year-old Caleb Friend. Additionally, 17-year-old Kylie Friend is charged as an adult with felony murder.

All three defendants are also charged with conjoint robbery and conspiracy to commit conjoint robbery.

Caleb Friend was found dead at a Miami, Oklahoma, residence Jan. 19.

Kylie Friend told investigators she was upset with her brother because he kicked her out of his house.

According to court documents obtained by the Miami Herald, in December 2015, Kylie Friend was with Jones and Rather when they started joking about robbing her brother, Caleb Friend, of his money and drugs.

On Jan. 19, Jones and Rather allegedly went to Caleb Friend’s home to rob him.

Rather reportedly told Kylie Friend that he was fighting with Caleb when Jones went to hit Caleb with a gun.  However, the gun went off and Caleb was killed.

“Kevin[Rather] told her[Kylie] it was all for 16 bucks,” a statement from an investigator said.

Kylie Friend said Jones and Rather told her the shooting was an “accident.”

If convicted, all three defendants face sentences of life, or life without parole.

It wasn’t immediately clear if the suspects have lawyers. An investigation is ongoing.
