Oscar winner Patty Duke dies at 69

Oscar winner Anna "Patty Duke' Pearce died early Tuesday morning from sepsis stemming from a ruptured intestine according to a statement from her talent agency.

She was 69.

"She was a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a friend, a mental health advocate and a cultural icon. She will be missed," the statement said.

Duke, who won an Oscar as a teen for ``The Miracle Worker'' and maintained a long and successful career throughout her life.

She built on her success in teen-hood by playing identical cousins on the popular sitcom, ``The Patty Duke Show.''
