OKLAHOMA CITY - Oklahoma City is about to open another exhilarating adventure for families to enjoy.
Riversport Rapids, in the Boathouse District, is part of the MAPS 3 Project.
It’s a man-made white water rafting and kayaking center.
A tremendous amount of water fills the bottom pool at the RIVERSPORT Rapids.
Then the pumps turn on, which sucks the water from the bottom pool up through the pump house into the top pool.
Then gravity takes over and the water goes down different channels.
"Then we have these devices called rapid blocks that serve, kind of like a boulder in a natural river that helps form the waves and the rapids in the course," said Mike Knopp, Oklahoma City Boathouse Foundation.
This is a $45 Million white water rafting and kayaking facility, one of only three man-made venues in the Nation, a huge attraction in Oklahoma.
"This really stands out. This is the only one in an urban area, in a downtown area," said Knopp.
Check out this freestyle feature, where kayakers can to do tricks like flips and turns.
While the Olympic trials will be here and elite athletes will use this facility, RIVERSPORT Rapids are here to entertain families, and they don't need any experience.
"We'll have big rafts that you'll get into with a raft guide, trained raft guide that will guide you through an hour-long experience on the water," said Knopp.
An exhilarating activity for everyone to enjoy, beginner and expert alike.
The grand opening is May 7th & 8th.
Rafting passes are $49 for a day pass which includes all RIVERSPORT adventure activities.
