CHICKASHA, Okla. - Chickasha police are searching for a man behind a vicious hammer attack in front of his estranged wife's house last week.
According to court documents, Royce and Sabreena Jarnagin are going through a divorce.
On April 19, authorities say he allegedly went to Sabreena's home and attacked her and a friend with a bladed hammer.
The victim's friend made a frantic call to 911 during the alleged attack.
“He busted all the windows out! His name is Royce Jarnagin!” the friend told a 911 dispatcher.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Jarnagin damaged the truck of that friend, who was sitting in Sabreena's driveway waiting to take her to work.
“He busted all the windows out of her truck and popped her tires,” the affidavit read.
The affidavit went on to say that when his Sabreena “got to the bottom of the stairs, Royce began striking her with the hammer in the head.”
“He’s beating up right now on Sabreena with a hammer! He’s killing her!” that friend said on the 911 call.
“Did some pretty serious damage to the vehicle with what was described as a roofing hammer, which would be a hammer on one side, more of a hatchet on the other,” said Assistant Chief Shanon McClain, with the Chickasha Police Department.
When police arrived, they found Jarnagin’s wife “covered in blood, stumbling westbound on Dakota Avenue.”
“They found a woman that had suffered some pretty serious injuries to her forehead and areas of her arms. They appeared to be some defensive type wounds,” said McClain.
Another witness called police as Jarnagin was leaving the scene.
“He’s getting on a bicycle riding west on Dakota,” said the caller.
But police have not been able to find Jarnagin.
His wife’s neighbor hopes that he’s caught soon.
“Royce needs to turn himself in before this escalates any higher than this already is,” said Charles Harrison.
Chickasha police believe Jarnagin is still in the area.
