ANTLERS, Okla. – An Oklahoma man was acquitted in the shooting death of another man in Pushmataha County.

In 2015, authorities arrested 17-year-old Chase Covington for the shooting death of 19-year-old Ronnie Wesley Long.

He was eventually charged with manslaughter.

On Friday , a jury deliberated for three hours before returning a not guilty verdict in the case.

According to Covington’s attorney, witnesses testified during the trial that Long charged Convington’s truck, hit him repeatedly and attempted to pull him from the moving vehicle.

“On behalf of Chase and his family, our condolences go out to the family of Wesley Long.  This was an unfortunate and tragic series of events,”  Covington’s attorney Kyle McCallum said.  “While I believe Chase was clearly acting in self-defense, it doesn’t change the fact that a family has lost a son, brother and friend.”
