Deer Creek, Edmond, Putnam City, Yukon cancel after-school activities due to potential for severe weather

EDMOND, Okla. – The Deer Creek School District, Edmond Public Schools, and Putnam City Schools have canceled after-school activities due to the potential for severe weather Tuesday.

Monday evening, the Deer Creek School District let parents know that they would close in face of bad weather.

“All after-school activities including Antler Care will be canceled Tuesday, April 26, 2016,” the school district said in a message to parents.

Tuesday morning, Edmond Public Schools announced all after-school activities and athletics are canceled.

“Due to the threat of severe weather this afternoon and evening, all after-school activities and athletics have been canceled. Please share this information,” the district said in a statement.

Just after 11 a.m., Putnam City Schools announced they would also be canceling their after-school and evening activities for the day.

Around 12 p.m., Yukon Public Schools said they would follow suit and cancel after-school activities as well.

Students at Yukon will still be released from school at their normal times.

However, students may be checked-out early starting at 12 p.m. and their absence will be excused.

All Francis Tuttle Technology Center evening classes and activities have been canceled due to the threat of severe weather. Officials say that includes the informational meeting for Wright Career College students. That meeting has been rescheduled for Thursday, April 28 at 5:30 p.m. at the Reno campus.

Meteorologists saidĀ severe thunderstorms and tornadoes are possible in central Oklahoma on Tuesday afternoon and evening.
