TAMPA, Fla. – It is always tough for animal shelter employees when they discover pets that have been abandoned by their owners.

However, employees say their hearts shattered when they found a paralyzed puppy with a note.

“As soon as I saw the crate, the first thing I said was, ‘Oh, I know what this is,” Lon Savini, with the Humane Society of Tampa Bay, told WFLA.

Attached to the crate was a handwritten note with “Please Read” written on top.

“I started reading it and immediately, I started crying. It just broke my heart,” Savini said.

“Please help my Genie. Genie (her name) is paralyzed from I believe her hips to her hind legs. I tried to manage her pain with medication from her vet but they only ease her pain and she needs surgery. I cannot afford so I ask that the Animal Health Center heal her and find her a loving forever home. Thank you,” the note read.

After reading the heartbreaking note, the workers at the animal shelter say they are on a mission to help the dog.

Once she undergoes surgery, the shelter says they will put her up for adoption.
