LAKELAND, Fla. – A man is recovering after being attacked by an alligator on Wednesday night.
Police received a call from the victim’s mother who said her son needed psychological help and was having an episode.
The man’s family told WFLA that the victim suffers from PTSD and ran into a wooded area, which concerned family members.
Eventually, the victim ended up near a lake and that’s when family members heard screams.
“I said, ‘What’s wrong, man?’ He says, ‘My hand hurts.’ I said, ‘Which hand is it?’ He lifts it up and there is no hand there at all,” said Mike Taylor, the victim’s brother-in-law.
Police told WFLA that the man was missing approximately three-quarters of his left forearm.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The victim is not charged with a crime.
