DES MOINES, Iowa - A community is mourning following a tragic accident that claimed the life of an Iowa girl.

Peri Sagun, 13, was scheduled to graduate from the eighth grade next week at St. Augustin's Catholic School.

Sagun and her sister attached a hammock to a brick pillar and decided to jump in it.

When they landed in the hammock, the pillar collapsed, throwing bricks on top of Sagun.

Investigators told WHO-TV the brick pillar that collapsed was only buried in the ground several inches deep with no reinforcements.

She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she died from her injuries.

Now, classmates and teachers are mourning her death.

"Every child had the same question: Why did this happen? How could God do this? Why now? We could give them no answers other than, 'This is a plan, and we don't know the plan, but we just have to pray that the family gets through it," said Pat Hogan, one of Sagun's teachers.
