5 dead, 4 injured after truck plows into bicyclists

KALAMAZOO COUNTY, Mich. — Five people were killed and four others were injured Tuesday evening after a truck crashed into a group of bicyclists in Kalamazoo County.

According to WXMI, the crash happened just before 7 p.m. in the 5500 block of N. Westnedge Avenue, according to Kalamazoo County Undersheriff Paul Matyas.

Kalamazoo County Prosecutor Jeff Getting said in a press conference Tuesday night that a 50-year-old male driver is in custody in connection with the crash.   He was arrested near the crash scene.

Getting said police received calls about a pickup truck driving erratically prior to the crash.

Two of the people injured in the crash are being treated at a local hospital. One of them is in critical condition and the other is in fair condition.

The other two victims are both listed in serious condition. All victims were adults, Getting later clarified Tuesday night.
