OKLAHOMA CITY - An easy-going teenager who enjoys sports and fashion now has his sights set on a family.
Demarco is 16-years-old and has been through a lot in his life.
Last year, he changed schools at least six times in one semester.
"It's pretty rough, but I just learn how to cope with it," he said.
However, that transition pales in comparison to what he went through when he was younger.
"I made a bold decision when I was 9. I let my counselor at school know I was going through neglect and different things, and I didn't expect to end up in DHS custody. I just wanted someone to know what I was going through and what I was feeling like,” Demarco said.
Now, he says he has no contact with his brother or parents.
"I'm proud that I saved me and my brother from the situation we were in, but it still hurts to know we don't have the same connection like we used to have," he said.
Now, Demarco spends his time playing soccer and enjoys his French class.
The articulate teen is easy-going and wants to be a fashion designer when he gets older.
"I like to draw. I want to be a fashion designer and a model when I grow up. I do that in my free time a lot," he said.
This caring teen also wants to show his peers in DHS custody that they can prosper.
“Give them a better idea of like how they could be and how far they can get because a lot of foster children grow up and [are] successful, and I want to be one of the ones who do grow up and [is] successful," Demarco said.
Demarco says he looks up to his own role model, Nelson Mandela.
"My teacher told me he was a foster kid and he made it big and he increased my confidence that I can be whatever I want to be," Demarco said.
It's time for a new chapter for Demarco, and he hopes that it includes a family who will love him unconditionally.
"I really want a family and someone that can just show me love and support and just someone I know I can go to for everything,” Demarco said.
