HOUSTON, Texas- It’s a case that shocked residents across Texas.
Donald Middleton was arrested on May 30, 2015 on a driving while intoxicated charge.
Authorities say he was trying to turn at a stop sign and hit another vehicle head-on. Fortunately, the 16-year-old driver in that car was not seriously injured.
Prosecutors say they have become extremely familiar with Middleton over the years because the latest charge was his ninth DWI case since 1980.
“He’s been to the penitentiary four separate times before he committed this last one. The ninth DWI that we sought life,” Montgomery County Assistant District Attorney Justin Fowles told KTRK.
Even after eight DWI convictions, KTRK reports that Middleton still had a valid driver’s license.
“For a habitual offender like this, he’s proven that he cannot be rehabilitated. And he should spend the rest of his life in prison,” Montgomery County Precinct Four Constable Rowdy Haden said.
