OKLAHOMA CITY- A 3rd alarm apartment fire broke out at Pheasant Run Apartments just after 9 P.M.

Firefighters received a 911 call from a woman living in an adjacent building, who claimed to see a spark before flames engulfed the back portion of the structure.

Crews responded near Meridian and N.W. 63rd Street, shutting down roads as they fought "heavy fire" so intense, much of the work had to be done from the exterior before firefighters could move in.

One fire hydrant proved difficult to open and slowed firefighters down.

No one inside was injured, as people rushed to safety, grabbing what they could. Many people walked the grounds barefoot, without time to put on shoes.

A firefighter suffered heat exhaustion and received treatment at the scene.

District Chief Benny Fulkerson does not know the cause of the fire at this time. Investigators are still working to determine what sparked the fire.

This is the second significant fire that has broken out at Pheasant Run in the last 18 months.

In January 2015, two units suffered heavy damage, as did a roof that had just been replaced.
