CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — A 9-year-old boy is safe after he was allegedly taken by his mother’s ex-boyfriend.

Early Tuesday morning, a woman noticed something strange coming from 54-year-old Charlie Woods’ car.

“The caller advised that as she was proceeding through the parking lot, she noticed that a trunk of a vehicle was open and there was a child in there,” a Clayton County police spokesperson told WXIA.

The woman immediately went to the car and helped the boy out of the trunk while Woods was inside a Department of Motor Vehicles office.

While they were waiting for police, Woods came back, checked the trunk and immediately tried to leave the parking lot.

Fortunately, officers arrested Woods before he could leave the parking lot.

Investigators say the 9-year-old boy had been in the care of his older siblings while his mother was at work. She had no idea he was even missing until police contacted her.

Authorities say Woods was not supposed to be near the woman’s home or her children.
