OKLAHOMA CITY - The Fourth of July is in a week, and that means grills will be firing up across the country.

Instead of picking up a bottle of barbecue sauce at the store, why don't you make your own?

2T vegetable oil
1/4 C finely chopped onion
2 cloves minced garlic
1 t salt
1/2 t pepper
4 T brown sugar
1 t Cayenne pepper
1 t crushed red pepper
1 C ketchup
2 T prepared yellow mustard
1/2 C cider vinegar
2 T lemon juice
1 t Worcestershire sauce

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, saute the onion and garlic until softened - roughly 5 min.

Add remaining ingredients, and stir.

Bring to simmer and cook 15-20 minutes or until desired thickness.

If you think some of your guests are going to show up early, make sure to have a plate ready to go to keep them busy.
