VICTORVILLE, Calif. – A California man is facing kidnapping charges after he was caught on surveillance video snatching a 4-year-old girl from a cellphone store.

Video shows a woman walking into the cellphone store with her two children, when the 4-year-old steps away.

Suddenly, a man reaches into the store and snatches the little girl.

The mother, the store owner and another customer hear the girl’s screams and chase after the would-be abductor.

Fortunately, the alleged abductor didn’t get far with the little girl.

The suspect lost grip of the 4-year-old and the mother quickly brought her daughter back inside the store, KNBC reports.

“The mom was in here she was very hysterical,” the owner of the cellphone store, Stella Moriel, said. “Her daughter was very traumatized, just clinging on to her, wouldn’t let go. Both babies were crying.”

Moriel’s husband and a customer chased down the suspect and held him until deputies arrived.

The store owner’s husband says the suspect had a strange reaction to being caught.

“He was smiling like it was some kind of joke or something,” Miguel Macias said.

Terry Ransom, 24, was arrested for kidnapping and child cruelty.

Investigators believe Ransom may have been high on drugs, KNBC reports.
