OKLAHOMA CITY – A metro woman is thankful two of her family members who are Dallas police officers are alright following Thursday night’s shooting.

Christy Favors says her brother-in-law has been with the Dallas police force for 30 years, and her nephew for about six years.

When she heard what happened Thursday night on the streets of their city, she says she was terrified for them.

“You know their job does not come without risk. However, when something, a shooting, of that magnitude happens you just kind of go numb,” Favors said.

Favors’ nephew wasn’t even supposed to work that night.

“He was actually on leave yesterday when all of this happened and they called him in and he went in and it sounds like a lot of the members of the force got called in,” Favors said.

That left her glued to the news coverage.

“Then I thought, I`ve got to turn this off. I just have to close my eyes and say a prayer. I just kept saying please let them be safe,” Favors said.

While her family members were not hurt, Favors’ says they are now in mourning over the loss of their colleagues.

“There is a brotherhood, not just within each police department, but across the board and they treat each other as family,” Favors said.

She says she and her family will continue to pray for the entire city of Dallas as they try and move forward after this horrific event.

“I think this is an event that is going to take some time to recover from and to bounce back from.  I think the people of Dallas and of Texas are a lot like Oklahomans. They`ll bounce back,” Favors said.

Favors says one of the Dallas officers killed, Patrick Zamarripa, graduated from the police academy with her nephew in 2010.
