Police officer shot on Chicago’s Near South Side

CHICAGO — A police officer was shot Thursday evening  in the Prairie District neighborhood on Chicago’s Near South Side, according to WGN.

The shooting happened at 18th and Calumet Avenue, which is near Soldier Field.

It’s not yet clear what events took place that led up to the shooting.

A suspect may also have been shot, sources told the Chicago Tribune.

The officer is believed to have been wounded in the lower half of his body.

A fellow officer rushed the wounded police officer to the hospital.

The officer’s condition is not known at this time.
