For Oklahoma’s Defense the departure of names like Eric Striker, Charles Tapper, and Zack Sanchez means that there is going to be some pretty big shoes to fill in terms of leadership in the Sooner’s locker room. Good news for Oklahoma, there are multiple players willing to step up and take the lead, and one of those is junior safety Steven Parker.
Parker is aware of the need for leadership on his squad, “This season, I know I just have to be vocal. I’m just taking it upon myself to just try to be a leader for the defense, try to talk. Even to encourage the offense, as far as receivers, since we’re going against each other all the time, me and Ahmad actually do. You know for all of us we really take it upon us to be vocal, basically have the communication that we can go out and beat any team, it’s just the offense right now, but that’s really just the biggest thing. Just being leaders for this defense and just keep on going.”
Parker had a pretty solid performance in 2015, earning himself Second Team All Big-12 Honors, and now in 2016 he’s ready to raise the bar, becoming a leader on the field and in the locker room.
