BUFFALO GROVE, Ill. - Four people and a dog are recovering after a violent home invasion in Illinois.

Officers rushed to the home around midnight on Wednesday when a caller told dispatchers several people were stabbed after someone broke into their home.

Police told WGN that two masked men broke into the family's home and repeatedly stabbed the 49-year-old homeowner.

Three other residents, including one as young as 16-years-old, were also stabbed in the attack. In fact, investigators say the men even attacked and stabbed the family's German Shepherd.

While his family members were being targeted, officers say the homeowner was able to grab a gun and fire at the intruders, causing them to take off.

Police say they do have suspects in custody and evidence links them to the scene.

The victims were all treated for their injuries, including the family pet.  The homeowner remains hospitalized at this point.
