PEARLAND, Texas – A mother is taking on a Texas school district after they decided to not allow her transgender daughter to use the girl’s restroom.

Kimberly Shappley told KTRK that she has always been a conservative and a devout Christian, but she never knew her son would challenge her faith.

At a young age, she knew something was different about Kai.

At 5-years-old, Kai identifies as a female.

However, the Pearland Independent School District identifies Kai as a boy, meaning Kai will have to use the boy’s bathroom or a nurse’s station while attending kindergarten.

It’s a decision that has Shappley fighting to change their mind.

“She’s not a threat to your children, but when you teach your children that my kid is a monster, then your kids are a threat to mine,” she said.

“It’s not just about Kai, it’s about Sarah who is born a female and believe she’s a female and her safety in a situation where a man walks in that bathroom and says he identifies as a woman,” Rick Torrison said. “What do you do with Sarah?”
