ALBANY, Ore. - An Albany man suffered a broken leg after he was compacted several times while inside a garbage truck, according to KPTV.

The Albany Police Department and the Albany Fire Department responded to the scene Thursday morning.

Police said the man was trapped inside the back of a front-loading Republic Services truck.

The man had been asleep in the dumpster, according to officials.

The truck reportedly picked up the dumpster and emptied the contents into the compactor.

The victim was compacted with recycling several times before he was able to get the driver's attention by throwing items at the truck.

One of his legs was fractured, but he is otherwise okay.

Albany police said the situation could have been a lot worse and the man is lucky to be alive.
