RUSH SPRINGS, Okla.-- Saturday was the 72nd Annual Rush Springs Watermelon Festival. And thousands arrived to enjoy the fun and delicious watermelon.

This event celebrates the season of the local crop of watermelons in the area with watermelon themed activities (like a seed spitting contest), carnival rides, family friendly entertainment, an arts and crafts fair with more than 100 vendors, on-site food vendors, and a classic automobile show.

Approximately 50 thousand pounds of watermelon is given out during the festival.

The festival began in 1948 and has grown into one of the most popular festivals in Oklahoma, with over 20,000 people in attendance.

This first place winner in the watermelon contest weighed in at almost 164 pounds!
