OKLAHOMA-- The Oil and Gas Division of the Oklahoma Corporation Commission notified operators of Arbuckle disposal wells that they would be closing within ten days.

This closure affects 37 wells run by ten operators that are within the "Area of Interest" of the epicenter of Saturday's record quake.

The Area of Interest includes 725 square miles surrounding the epicenter. 211 square miles of this area are not in the OCC's jurisdiction and will be handled by the EPA.

All wells within five miles of the epicenter will be closed in seven days. Wells within ten miles of the epicenter will be closed in ten days.

The closure of wells is being spread out over ten days because seismologists warn a sudden shut down could trigger another quake.
