OKLAHOMA CITY-- Family and friends are mourning the loss of a man who was shot and killed while trying to help a pregnant woman.

Last month, Greg Hill was shot to death outside of an apartment complex in northeast Oklahoma City.

Tuesday, murder charges were filed against the alleged shooter.

Jimmy Lynn Simms is being held in the county jail without bond.

Court records show Hill was killed at the apartment complex while trying to cool down a heated argument between Simms, 21, and his pregnant girlfriend.

The couple lived at an apartment complex near 26th and Lincoln, where Hill was the friendly maintenance man.

It was late one afternoon in August when witnesses say they heard a gunshot and saw Greg Hill rush outside to help.

“It was part of his job to come out and make sure everybody's okay.. he was part of the family,” neighbor Patsy Cudjo said.

Court records show Jimmy Simms had allegedly fired one shot into the dash of his girlfriend’s vehicle with their 1-year-old son in the back seat.

When Hill approached the couple, witnesses say Simms started shooting.

Moments later, Hill reportedly said he had been shot and he collapsed.

“We’re going to miss him so much, we really are,” Cudjo said.

“He lost his life trying to be a good Samaritan,” D.J. Thompson said.

Tuesday, the DA charged Simms with murder and assault with a deadly weapon.

“I’m happy they got the person that did it,” Thompson said.

The scene is now covered with condolences for a maintenance man everyone couldn’t help but love.

“My papa’s still here with us, he’s still here,” Thompson said.
