University of Oklahoma president David Boren says the expansion of the Big 12 Conference is not a given, and the league could remain at 10 schools.

Boren spoke to the media after the OU Board of Regents meeting, saying it’s not a sure thing the league will decide to expand.

Boren is also the chairman of the Big 12 Board of Directors, and says he’s not sure they’ll even vote on expansion at their next meeting in the middle of October.

For two months, the conference has been discussing expansion and has listened to presentations from nearly two dozen schools.

At the same regents meeting, OU regents approved the building of a performance center addition to the Lloyd Noble Center, which will feature a strength and training facility on the south side of the arena.

The cost for the project is about $7 million.
