TULSA, Okla – An Oklahoma teacher was sentenced to prison this week for receiving child pornography.

Former Union Public Schools band teacher James Russell Wilson, 32, was indicted by a grand jury in April 2016.

Officials with the Department of Justice say from October 2014 to December 2014, Wilson reportedly found the public profile of a 12-year-old girl on Instagram and began sending messages to her username on Kik, an online-messaging program.

During this time, Wilson allegedly requested revealing and sexual photos of the 12-year-old.

Officials say he also enticed the child to send him pictures in which she exposed herself and performed sexual acts on herself.

According to a Department of Justice news release, Wilson sent the girl pictures in which he exposed himself and engaged in masturbation.

Authorities were notified when the girl’s mother found nude photos and sexually explicit messages on the girl’s iPod, the Tulsa World reports.

Investigators reportedly recovered 235 pornographic images of children at Wilson’s Tulsa home.

Wilson was suspended from his job as an assistant band director at Union Public Schools shortly after his arrest, the Tulsa World reports. He resigned soon after the suspension.

The former teacher pleaded guilty to receiving child pornography on June 14, 2016.

This week, a judge sentenced Wilson to serve 13 years in federal prison, followed by 20 years of supervised release.
