OKLAHOMA CITY - Inside Wheeler Elementary in Oklahoma City, 5th grade teacher Sunshine Sarrington is sending out bright rays of love.

Sarrington has a passion for the kids at Wheeler and not just as students.

A couple of years ago, Sarrington started a campaign with her friends to make sure everyone in her grade level had a visit from Santa Claus.

She had the kids write letters to Santa.

Most of the requests were for basic needs: shoes, a blanket for their sibling, maybe a bed.

The next Christmas, she went even further, making sure everyone in the school got new school uniforms.

Former Wheeler student Charlene Hughes nominated Sarrington for Pay it 4Ward.

“It’s amazing what she’s done in two years,” Hughes said. “I can’t wait to see what she will do next for these kids.”

Marissa Mindieta from First Fidelity Bank supplied the $400 for Hughes to Pay it 4Ward to Sarrington.

“We’re just so proud at First Fidelity to be part of rewarding this deserving teacher,” Mindieta said.

When we surprised Sarrington in her classroom with the $400 Pay it 4Ward award, her student’s cheered.

And, Sarrington, with tears in her eyes, told us “I do it for them, not for me. It's just what I do.”

As the kids embraced her with a group hug, Sarrington said “I love you” - a teacher who knows the value of Paying it 4Ward.

Pay it 4Ward is sponsored by First Fidelity Bank.
