OKLAHOMA CITY – Nearly a dozen pets were killed in a house fire in southwest Oklahoma City on Tuesday afternoon.

Shortly before 1:30 p.m., Oklahoma City fire crews were called to a home near S.W. 26th St. and Portland Ave. after smoke was seen coming from the house.

Even though no human residents were inside the home at the time, firefighters were told that dogs were still trapped inside the house.

A homeowner arrived and told fire crews that there were 14 dogs inside kennels in the home.

Officials say the fire started at the back side of the home, but firefighters were able to put it out quickly.

Firefighters reached many of the dogs, many of whom were still in cages. One dog was resuscitated, and it seems that all but three pets perished in the blaze.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.
