CUSHING, Okla. – An Oklahoma man is facing charges after he allegedly hit another man in the head with an axe.

Officials say it all started when an officer stopped at a home along East Walnut St. in Cushing and found a man with a large gash across his head.

Witnesses told police that the victim had stopped by a cookout uninvited and was hit in the head with the blunt side of an axe when 37-year-old Julio Cecil Flores tried to get him to leave.

According to the arrest affidavit, Flores claimed that he was defending himself,  saying the victim hit him first.

Flores was arrested on one count of assault and battery with a weapon and is being held on a $10,000 bond.
